Sign up children to learn from El Paso master gardeners how to grow tomatoes, other plants – El Paso Times

Spring is coming and it’s a good time to get kids excited about gardening.

Master gardeners will be offering a six-week youth gardening program online, starting March 25. Children in grades second through fifth grade must be registered by March 12. Spring starts March 20.

Master gardeners and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension agents will be giving gardening and nutrition lessons via Zoom at 5:15 p.m. Thursdays. The children also will get a tomato plant to care for.

“The kids will get all materials to grow their plant this season with weekly follow-ups and lessons on gardening and nutrition,” said Denise S. Rodriguez, county extension director in El Paso.

Rebeca Lopez got a close-up look at a rose at the Municipal Rose Garden in 2017. Spring is a great time to get kids excited about gardening.

The cost is $15 which includes the supplies and plant.
